Abstract: High performance computing (HPC) generally refers to processing complex calculations at high speeds across multiple servers in parallel. Hosting such infrastructure needs detailed planning with respect to installation of system, cooling infrastructure and electrical infrastructure. CSIR-Fourth Paradigm Institute hosts the centralized supercomputing facility for the whole of CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research).
Originally installed in 2012, when it was the largest supercomputer in the country and 58th largest in the world, with a computing capability 360 Tera Floating point Operations Per Second (FLOPS).
The system is being refreshed to about 3 Peta-FLOPS computing system in next three months. The newer system uses different cooling mechanism and will also have AI computing capabilities in addition to traditional CPU based computing. This talk will touch upon various complexities and challenges being faced while establishing this facility.
More Info..I-STEM Technical Management Conclave 2023!
The Indian Science Technology and Engineering facilities Map (I-STEM) organised two days Conclave on Technical Management for Women (ITMC-W) 2023 from February 21-22, 2023.
Where the women representatives from various institutions were invited. The representatives presented the available R&D infrastructure linked with I-STEM and its Operation and Management that included, the status of health, approved usage rates, number and type of technical operators associated with the equipment, details of the suppliers and service providers with their contact details, about AMC, the users (internal and external), usage statistics and the availability of the equipment (Per day/Per hour basis).
This not only helped in bringing awareness about best practices followed by different laboratories, but also the challenges faced in the operation and maintenance of such high-end scientific equipment.
The researchers appreciated the conclave in the context that, within a two-day conclave they were able to identify the laboratory of their interest and this would further help them to save their valuable time, as the tagline of I-STEM says "Linking Researchers and Resources" the Conclave is seen by many participants as one of its kind and truly saving time of both researchers and laboratories and improving cross-collaboration in R&D across the country.
More Info..The workshop on “Drug Discovery & Development” is being organized by FABA (Federation of Asian Biotech Associations) Academy (http://biofaba.org.in/) in collaboration with the Science Gurus (http://sciencegurus.org/), a US-based nonprofit organization and the University of Hyderabad (https://uohyd.ac.in/).
We are pleased to bring you this comprehensive workshop filled with enriching content to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn different aspects of the drug discovery and development process including drug repurposing with an emphasis on drugs for Covid-19, and intellectual property. In addition, the attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the experience of the success stories of
Biotech and Pharma startups. The workshop also includes hands-on training modules in computational structure-based drug design, machine learning for biomedical drug discovery, genomics, and transcriptomics.
Drug discovery and development involve efforts carried out by a multidisciplinary team of experts in chemistry, biology, computational science, statistics, pharmacology, clinical sciences, etc. Based on molecular insights, specific genes/proteins (targets) responsible for causing a disease of interest are first
identified and validated. Then follows the drug discovery process wherein molecules which modulate targets activity are identified and characterized at various levels. Once a drug candidate shows promising therapeutic activity, the development process systematically evaluates the suitability of the drug candidate for human use, in terms of its potential therapeutic value for maximum benefit, while minimizing the potential adverse side effects.
Workshop Topics
1. Discovery: Target identification and validation, including molecular modeling and drug design.
2. Pre-clinical Development: Drug metabolism, PK & PD studies.
3. Development: Drug manufacturing, process development, and formulation.
4. Clinical Development: Phase I to IV studies, including Regulatory Affairs.
5. The Next Frontier: Emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Data sciences, personalized
medicine, and drug repurposing.
6. Hands-on Training Modules:
The workshop also includes an interactive panel discussion by the industry experts on: " Future of drug discovery in India". This workshop will be conducted online. Participants will have opportunities to present and discuss case studies and interact with the experts.
We look forward to your participation in the workshop.
Best Regards,
FABA Academy, Science Gurus & University of Hyderabad
