A full-scale prototype was developed to test the proof of concept. The product performed satisfactorily under various conditions.

    Abstract:

Applications: Non-traditional manufacturing Melting of ferrous and non-ferrous metals are carried out by means of microwave energy at 2.45 GHz. Implementation of microwave energy for such applications results in smokeless and more uniform heating, high heating rates, reduction of energy up to one third of that required in conventional process and significant time saving compared to the other melting procedures.
Advantages: Reduction in the loss of energy. Significant reduction in the energy requirements comparatively. Attainment of higher temperature of approximately 2000ºC with a relatively low power of 2-3 kW. Heat treatment in the same mold and grain refinement of the developed in-situ casts.
