    Abstract:

Applications: Wound care is an essential component in healthcare and different product are frequently developed to address various aspects of wound healing. The conventional post-surgical care involves covering the wound with wound dressings, which are in form of bandages, cotton wool, lint and gauzes. However, at times, these products fail to keep the wound dry and lead to microbial infections, that spoils the healing process. The conventional dressings are also not effective in dealing with scar prevention and biocompatibility. Thus, there is a need for effective wound dressing that protects the wound from infection and ensures proper healing. The present invention provides a biocompatible wound dressing that is effective in preventing scar formation and a process for developing such wound dressing. It is a chitosan based wound dressing. It has increased tensile strength compared to conventional wound dressings. The pores in the dressing are smaller in size, it is absorbent, bacteriostatic and hemostatic. It is biocompatible and hydrophilic in nature. The dressing can be applied to all kinds of wounds and is helpful in reducing scar formation.
Advantages: 1. It is safe. 2. A low cost method for preparing the dressing. 3. It is applicable to all wounds. 4. It can be formed in different shapes and sizes. 5. It has low toxicity. 6. It accelerates wound healing process. 7. Wound dressing offer antimicrobial property and prevents scar formation.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
