Diabetic Retinopathy DR is the damage caused to retina by complications of diabetes which can eventually lead to blindness. DR affects up to 40 percentage of all patients who have had diabetes for 15 years or more. Research indicates that at least 90 percentage of new DR cases could be reduced if there was proper and vigilant screening. DR is Asymptomatic during early stages and irreversible once affected. An ophthalmologist can detect DR from the image of the retina using a Fundus camera. India has a diabetic population of 75 Million which is 2nd highest in the world. As per CURES population study, 17.6 percentage diabetics have risk of DR i.e. millions of cases of DR. Risk of DR increases with Diabetic age. Proper and systematic screening for DR has been shown to be effective in prevention and management of DR. However, in developing countries like India there is an enormous disparity in ratio between trained ophthalmologists to patients which makes screening programs less effective. Computer Aided Detection can play a pivotal role in addressing prevention of avoidable blindness by increasing screening efficiency of DR. DRISTI, using quantitative image analysis algorithms, analyses retinal fundus images for DR lesions and directs DR suspicious cases for detailed ophthalmologist review. Most of the DR negative cases are screened out without ophthalmologist intervention

TRL 5 DRISTI Software was validated on 2624 images from 1869 retinas of 1486 patients. DRISTI reported a combined accuracy of 82.60 percentage Sensitivity and 71.40 percentage• DRISTI sw. was validated on 2624 images from 1869 retinas of 1486 patients. DRISTI reported a combined accuracy of 82.60% Sensitivity and 71.40% Specificity. Automated quality assessment is having an accuracy of 93.7%. DRISTI analysis and classification algorithms take an average execution time of 15 seconds per image when run on a workstation grade computer with 64 bit Windows 7 OS. Specificity.     Abstract:

Applications: Automatically classifies retina as either Non DR or suspicious of DR. Patient prioritization based on automated severity scoring. Real-time image quality notification for re imaging. Detects retinal pathologies like micro aneurisms, haemorrhages, exudates and cotton wool spots. Systematic storage of patient details and analysis results.
Advantages: DRISTI can increase screening efficiency by 2.5 times Screening cost can be saved as optometrist can be used for screening instead of a ophthalmologist. Expertise of ophthalmologist need to be utilized for evaluation of suspicious cases directed by DRISTI.
