    Abstract:

Applications: The aim of the project is to solve the car parking space problem in India. We propose a car parking system which provides autonomous car parking. The car will be equiped with minimal navigation capability in order to drive through a predefined route. It uses image processors and ultrasonic sensors to navigate to a parking lot and search for unoccupied parking space. We propose to have picking hotspots around a city. If a car is left at a Hotspot it will automatically drive to the nearest parking lot and park the car. Upon request to unpark the car it can come back to the same picking Hotspot. Application notes: The Self Parking Car System has more scope in Indian scenario due to lack of organised parking management systems. It has potential to solve the unorganised parking problem on sides of traffic lanes which reduces the effective lane width for movement of vehicles and clogs the traffic. It will reduce the need to have large number of small size parking lots close nearby each other in the city and allow for an organised car parking system with fewer no of parking lots having large capacities. With specially designed parking lots proposed in the system it will be possible to better address the management and and security concerns of vehicles.
Advantages: 1. Several automobile companies have developed working prototypes and commercial products on this technology. Toyota, Ford and Bosh (BMW i3) have already launched commercial products based on this technology. Our project aims at indigenously developing a low cost alternative similar to solution proposed by these companies. 2. The solutions available in market focus more on adding autonomous navigation capability in individual cars. What we propose is a solution on a city scale with picking hotspots and predefined routes to parking lots which will allows us to achieve autonomous parking by adding minimal navigation capability to cars. It will reduce the cost of the technology and make it affordable. 3. Our solution proposes specialised parking lots enhanced with technology to aid in navigation and autonomous parking. This will reduce the technology enhancement burden on individual cars and keep the technology affordable.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
