    Abstract:

Applications: Potential applications of the technology :- 1. Construction Industry :- To create fast, affordable, stylish as well as disaster relief housing to help victims recover with dignity. 2. Housing Sector :- Bamboo Composites can be converted to panels of different thicknesses with different widths and lengths. These panels have applications as wall-panels, partitions, coverings, decoration laminates, floorings, thermal, electrical insulations, shuttering ply, doors, windows, table tops, false ceilings, roofs etc. Thicker sections can be used as structural elements such as beams, columns, trusses, benches, floor support, decks, frames for doors, windows etc.
Advantages: The technology comprises knowhow of manufacturing multifunctional bamboo composite material for modern housing and structures using abundantly available renewable bamboo as a raw material. 1. The newly developed bamboo composite material can serve as a competitive, sustainable and environment friendly alternative material, useful in the construction of smart green buildings as it has very attractive features like, aesthetic appearance, acoustic & thermal insulation. It also possesses excellent stiffness and strength properties essentially required for any structural application in the construction industry. 2. The property of bamboo composite material is superior to natural products such as teak wood in terms of stiffness, strength, moisture contents, uniformity and consistency.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
