    Abstract:

Applications: A new concept of gear based Multi-Motor Mono-Reaction Wheel System (MMMRWS) actuation mechanism for spacecraft attitude control is designed with the capability of autonomously tolerating the multiple actuator failures, while simultaneously reducing the size of spacecraft. The spacecraft Attitude Control is an integral subsystem of spacecraft control which orients and maintains the desired state in spite of disturbance torques and other perturbations acting on the spacecraft. The linking of single reaction wheel with multiple motors in the proposed MMMRWS autonomously handle the multiple actuator failures onboard, provides mechanical advantages and further reducing the size of satellite or spacecraft
Advantages: With the increasing demand and a great market for small satellites for various missions like Earth observation, weather monitoring, space exploration, military, communications, navigation and science applications, search and rescue. Spacecraft needs to reliable, they should have capability of autonomously tolerating the faults onboard without any human intervention. Further miniaturization of spacecraft has always been desired as small satellite require smaller and cheaper launch vehicles and can sometimes be launched in multiples, can be used in formations to gather data from multiple points, in-orbit inspection of larger satellites, university-related research, testing or qualifying new hardware before using it on a more expensive spacecraft. The designed ACS will help to construct the satellites which can autonomously tolerate the multiple actuator failures onboard without compromising the expensive mission. It can also further reduce the size of satellite or spacecraft

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
