    Abstract:

Applications: Japanese encephalitis virus JEV is one of the major causes of encephalitis in children and it is estimated that annually JEV causes 50000 to 67900 cases leading to 10000 to 20000 deaths globally.Swine, being an amplifier host of JEV, plays an important role in its epidemiology. Early detection of IgM antibodies against JEV in swine is a feasible alternative for initiating necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection to humans. Moreover, none of the JE IgM ELISA kits for swine are manufactured indigenously and the high cost of the imported kits is a huge economical burden, especially for developing countries
Advantages: It does not involve handling of live JE virus, Excellent repeatability as revealed by intra and inter institutional laboratory validation studies, Appreciable relative diagnostic sensitivity 95.34 percent and specificity 98.6 percent, Hitherto, more than 3000 field swine serum samples tested using this kit,Cost effective as compared to existing commercial kits.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
