Please give more details of new technical application area:
Worldwide cancer statistics shows that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is a leading cause of cancer death in developing countries. Late stage malignancy detection and inaccessible diagnosis and treatment accounts to the major cause of high mortality rates in breast cancer. Mortality can be significantly reduced if identified at an earlier stage. Breast Cancer Detection Device (BCDD) is a novel data acquisition device based on thermography for the early detection and screening of breast cancer especially in young women with dense breast. It offers a simple, portable, high accurate, low cost indigenous solution for screening breast cancer.

Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
Product has been fully developed and is ready for technology transfer to potential technology partners. The product is having IEC 60601-1 Medical Electrical Equipment Certification. The device has cleared medical ethical committee approval for patient trials. The technology was used in 42 malignant cases to bench mark with mammogram and ultra sonogram methodologies. The prodcut has been implemented for screening more than 600 volunteers in different places of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Nagaland. TRL level-9.

    Abstract:

Applications: - Device can be used for easy and low cost initial screening of women population in mass community screening - Device can be used for the early detection of breast cancer in younger women (especially useful since mammography cannot be used in young women) - Device provides painless and non invasive breast thermal scanning which does not involve any kind of harmful radiation exposure
Advantages: -Device can be used for the early detection of breast cancer in younger women (especially useful since mammography cannot be used in young women) -Device provides painless and non-invasive breast thermal scanning which does not involve any kind of harmful radiation exposure whereas mammogram is painful and involves radiation -Device offers highly accurate breast thermal profile compared to the equivalent methodologies like infrared camera-based screening -Device ensures privacy for the person being screened compared to the other major breast screening methodologies - Device provides a PC based software interface for Breast Thermal profile imaging and analysis, Patient registration and database, Online trending , Data storage and editable reports, Offline analysis of patient data and Neural network based classification of healthiness of breast tissues

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
