    Abstract:

Applications: There is a lot of scope to create multifunctional fabrics which can have unique properties and can solve the modern world’s problems like harmful UV radiation, high use of water, detergents & their harmful environmental impact, health problems, etc. The invention relates to a process and composition for treating fabrics to impart multifunctional properties such as UV protecting, selfcleaning, anti-microbial, anti-fouling, anti-wrinkle and strong photocatalytic reduction of dyes and organic stains on the fabric. The process involves sandwiching of titania nanostructures using crosslinking agents to acheive strong retention of titania nanoparticles on the fabric. This increases the performance as compared to single layered titania nanostructures. Application: 1. Home textiles (curtains, etc. which are very less frequently washed) 2. Apparels 3. Surfaces which are prone to contact with multiple persons (seats, furniture surfaces), etc.
Advantages: 1. Multifunctional properties can be introduced in cotton, polyester, blended fabrics and other natural and synthetic fabrics. 2. The technique has capability for strong retention of nanostructures and photocatalytic activity; is durable for 30 washes. 3. This technique keeps the fabric wearable for 7 days without washing.

Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
