    Abstract:

Applications: An object of the present invention is to provide a novel bacterial consortium for bio-remediation of petrochemical wastewater. The present invention is to resolve the problems and disadvantages of conventional technologies and to provide a method of treating petrochemical wastewater in a biofilm reactor, which can achieve an excellent BOD reduction. The invention provides a method of treatment of petrochemical wastewater using the consortium of hydrocarbon-reducing bacteria, which is eco-friendly, sludge free system and cost effective moving bed biofilm reactor where in the exit water is clear with no visible floating biomass.
Advantages: It provides an efficient and cost effective method that is an alternative to an expensive chemical approach or a less efficient biological approach by treating the petrochemical wastewater for degrading petrochemical hydrocarbons using the consortium of hydrocarbon-reducing bacteria, which is eco-friendly, sludge free system and cost effective. Unlike the conventional system, it takes 18 hours with no sludge generation and the treated water replaces use of freshwater for irrigation and fire fighting storage. The advantage is that the cost of the installation can be recovered within 4 years of operation and saves fresh water for drinking.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
