    Abstract:

Applications: 1. The current invention relates to methods and compositions to make three-dimensional paper-based epidermal skin model comprising mammalian skin cells grown on a paper composite. The paper composite is impregnated with polydimethylsiloxane nanoparticles and coated with polycaprolactone nanofibers on one side. 2. The epidermal skin model exhibits a combination of micro and nano-topography similar to the extracellular matrix of epidermis in mammalian skin along with increased cell adhesion, cell growth and cell differentiation compared to bare paper, PDMS nanoparticles impregnated paper or bare PCL nanofibers.
Advantages: 1. The current invention relates to methods and compositions to make three-dimensional paper-based epidermal skin model comprising mammalian skin cells grown on a paper composite. 2. The paper composite is impregnated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanoparticles and coated with polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers. 3. The epidermal skin model exhibits a combination of micro and Nano-topography similar to the extracellular matrix of epidermis in mammalian skin. 4. The current invention discloses compositions and methods for making three-dimensional paper-based epidermal skin model comprising mammalian skin cells grown on a paper composite wherein the paper composite comprises a paper impregnated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanoparticles and coated with polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers on one side of the PDMS nanoparticles impregnated paper. 5. The invention is a three-dimensional paper-based epidermal skin model, comprising mammalian skin cells grown on a paper composite, wherein the paper composite comprises a paper impregnated with PDMS nanoparticles and on one side 30 coated with polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers. In one embodiment of the invention mammalian skin cells are mammalian keratinocyte cells, and in one embodiment, the mammalian skin cells are keratinocytes, melanocytes, Langerhans cells, Merkel cells or a combination thereof.
