    Abstract:

Applications: A novel watch for Blind and Visually Impaired people is proposed. The input to the watch will be provided using the touch sensitive tactile hour-indicators by the user. Based on this input, an output in the form of vibrations will be provided to the user indicating the correct time. There are technologies available to assist a blind and visually impaired person. For a blind person, there are watches available in the market like the braille watch, tactile watch, and the talking watch. This invention relates to a touch sensitive tactile watch for the blind or visually impaired that provides haptic based feedback using vibrations. The user has to just touch and scan the tactile hour indicators and time will be indicated through different vibrational patterns at locations depending upon time
Advantages: Watch is a powerful instrument to keep track of time and we simply use a watch by looking at the hour indicators and the watchs hands. The invention described herein relates to a tactile watch with 12 touch sensitive hour indicators. The user just touches and scans these tactile hour indicators and the time is indicated through vibrational patterns at time dependent locations. Talking Watch: Speaks out time when required. The biggest advantage of this watch is that it is silent in operation, and has no mechanical motion. Also, the comparatively large number of inputs present in this device makes it ideal to exploit advanced functionalities and convert it into a smartwatch for blind people. User can touch and feel hour and minute indicators and based on its location, they guess the time.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
