TRL7 The product is developed and tested in maize and rice crop fields since last three years. Also, the product will be commercialized within India where a few academic and research institutions will use it for R&D activities.


Applications: The developed sensor is capacitance based and utilizes fringing electric field effect. It can be used in agriculture field to optimize the irrigation process by real-time monitoring of soil moisture in the field.
Advantages: The sensor developed includes the following features: 1) Have more penetration depth 2) More Sensitivity 3) Can provide soil moisture content at two level of depths in the field 4) Low cost 5) Compact design 6) Low power 7) Durable 8) Insensitive to salt 9) Output number of clock-pulses proportional to moisture

It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
