    Abstract:

Applications: Currently, there is no commercial brand that manufactures ECDM setup. The developed product can be launched to perform multi purpose machining operations in Manufacturing industry. The developed product can be used to machine micro features such as slits, slots, 3D arrays and grating surfaces on variety of materials including MMCs, hardened ceramics and difficult to machine materials. The potential end users of the developed facility will be the electronic packaging industry, research labs and educational institutions. In order to enhance the practical skills for better understanding of the subject, the developed facility can be introduced in the laboratory schedule of graduation and post graduation level courses.
Advantages: This facility is developed by the aim to perform multiple machining operations in micro domain like cutting, slitting and slotting operations on the same platform. The device is capable of producing above mentioned features on partially conductive materials like metal matrix composites (MMCs) as well as nonconductive materials like ceramics, glass etc. Whereas, the existing technologies are limited in concern of the materials those possess different characteristics. The device is flexible to cut prismatic and cylindrical parts. This facility can be customized as per the end user requirement.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
