Category: Product(Hardware/Material/Software)
Details of Inventor(s):
Inventor Institution/Organization/Company Department Designation
Mr. Rajesh KR CDAC THIRUVANANTHAPURAM SEG SCIENTIST F
Technical Application Area: Military
If 'Other', please specify:
Please give more details of new technical application area:
It is an advanced, field deployable system to detect and locate source of different fire arms like INSAS, AK 47, Self Loading Rifle SLR, snipers etc. Acoustic Gunshot Detection System detects and conveys the location of gunfire or other weapon fire using an array of acoustic sensors. These systems can be used by military, law enforcement and security agencies to identify the direction of gunfire, the source and, in some cases, the type of weapon fired.Three system architectures for Acoustic Gunshot Detection System AGDS are proposed based on the application scenario. a. Stand Alone Static version with networked sensors b. Vehicle mounted version c. Dismounted soldier version In a static networked model, AGDS can be mounted on static installations approximately 500 meters apart. The vehicle mountable configuration of AGDS can be fixed to a moving vehicle, to detect a hostile fire directed towards it. Dismounted soldier version is a highly compact and light weight model of the system that can be of great use to individual soldiers to carry along while in combat operations.

    Abstract:

Applications: Terrorist, Criminal and military actions involving firearms are of increasing concern to Indian security enforcement agencies like Border Security Forces, SPG, military ,paramilitary forces and police forces. Border security forces require Acoustic Gunshot Detection System to be deployed at borders for security surveillance. AGDS will enhance the capability of VVIP proximity security system of Special Protection Group SPG. Tactical Gunshot detection and determining shooter location are the top priority requirements to assure safety in those areas and for quick response action. Acoustic Gunshot detection systems can also be used in .Surveillance of high security installations such as government buildings, military installations, museums etc. for alerting potential human targets to take evasive action and to direct security forces to neutralize threats. .Counter insurgency and combing operations of in-land security forces against internal threats •Operations of Indian Defense forces against external threats •Collecting Forensic evidences after a Gunshot incident Indigenization of the system would make it affordable, especially in cases where large numbers are required, as in border areas for 24 x 7 security surveillance. Acoustic Gunshot Detection System AGDS for strategic applications is an advanced, field deployable system to detect and locate source of different fire arms like INSAS, AK 47, Self Loading Rifle SLR, snipers etc. In a typical operational scenario, Acoustic Gunshot detection system fitted in a moving vehicle or fixed to a static location or mounted to a soldier will help to locate hostile gunfire sources and respond quickly to neutralize threats. Acoustic Gunshot detection System is being developed in three different configurations. a. Stand Alone Static configuration with networked sensors b. Vehicle mounted configuration c. Dismounted soldier configuration
Advantages: AGDS can also be fixed to high security buildings, strategic installations and insurgent prone areas to give precise warning about possible hostile gun fire. It can also be fitted to a soldier in combat action.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
