    Abstract:

Applications: An apparatus for high resolution WAMS (Wide area monitoring system) for Indian power grid is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an arrangement of signal acquisition module to make high magnitude of bus voltage and current measurable, both IRNSS (Indian regional navigation satellite system) and GPS (Global positioning system) disciplined data acquisition module, in case if IRNSS satellite coverage not available, apparatus will switch to GPS, phasor processing module and both 5G and ethernet based communication module. The data acquisition and phasor processing module capture high-resolution digital samples of analog power signal waveform output from signal acquisition module then apply phasor estimation algorithm to evaluate micro-resolution and low error phasor values (TVE Total vector error less than 0.01 percent). The device, then, time stamps the measurements using time signal from IRNSS or GPS clock. Then communication module formats the time stamp phasor measurements in IEEE C37.118 or IEC 60255.118 standard and communicates 100 such frames per second to PDC (PMU data concentrator) wirelessly over 5G or wired based ethernet
Advantages: Disclosed invention is a micro resolution synchronized phasor measurement apparatus. Micro resolution enables the monitoring of parameters of distribution system where network parameters vary in micro steps. The scope of invention discloses a mission critical apparatus equipped with two time synchronization clocks (IRNSS and GPS) increasing the resiliency of measurement system, low latency high measurement reporting rate of phasor measurement device makes it useful for real time monitoring of power grid

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
