Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
The objectives are to design and develop an external distraction device for different sizes of skull dimensions for the correction of midface hypoplasia and to incorporate an adjustment mechanism to uniformly adjust the tension in the cranial pins. After the completion of the design of the distraction system, the stress analysis has been carried out in ANSYS Workbench 14.5. The maximum stress developed is much lower compared to the yield strength of the assigned material and hence the design is safe. For the prototype, the individual components of the device are then developed with the help of a 3D printer with PLA as the material. The components are assembled and the prototype assembled device is fixed to a human skull model . With the size adjustment mechanism at the central part of the device, the overall width of the distraction system can be uniformly changed as per the size of the skull of the patient.TRL level- 4

    Abstract:

Applications: The distraction device is employed - 1. to correct midfacial deformity in patients with cleft lip and palate 2. and also in patients with other congenital craniofacial relating to both cranium and face syndromes such as Crouzon, Apert and Pfeiffers syndrome genetic disorders characterized by premature fusion of certain skull bones
Advantages: Following are the advantages of the proposed device- 1. size adjustment is not limited 2. simultaneous and uniform change in width 3. easy width adjustment as per the size of the skull

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
