Abstract:
The present invention provides a rapid hydrothermal method for the synthesis of hierarchically mesoporous Li3VO4, an active anode material for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). The template free hydrothermal method in ethylene glycol-water (2:1 v/v) solvent system produces nut-shaped Li3VO4 at 170 °C in 5 hours. The nut-shaped Li3VO4 is highly porous and hollow from inside with hierarchical mesoporosity with an extended pore size distribution in the range 3.0 – 30.0 (± 1.0) nm. The electrochemical charge/discharge studies with the nut-shaped hierarchically mesoporous Li3VO4 in its bare form as the active anode in a lithium half-cell showed a discharge capacity of 615 ± 15 mAhg-1 and a charge capacity of 385 ± 15 mAhg-1 at 0.1 C rates for the first cycle. A discharge capacity of 345 ± 15 mAhg-1observed at the 2nd cycle is superior to those reported for other Li3VO4 in its bare form.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
