Abstract:
A multi-parameter patient monitoring system includes a pressure sensor, a pulse plethysmograph (PPG) sensor, a control unit and a display unit. The pressure sensor is connected to an amplifier to amplify the pressure sensor output which is typically in the range of microvolts to millivolts. The pulse plethysmograph (PPG) sensor is an optical sensor which detects pulsatile and non-pulsatile flow of blood. The pulse plethysmograph (PPG) sensor is connected to a two stage band pass filter. The outputs of the two sensors are provided to the control unit. The display unit displays the values of physiological parameters computed by the control unit. The system monitors systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), pulse rate (PR), perfusion index (PI), saturation of peripheral oxygen (SpO2) and haemoglobin (Hb) concentration.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
