Abstract:
The present invention provides a battery lifetime enhancer for non rechargeable batteries that steps-up the voltage of a battery when it is below its usable value. When the battery voltage decreases, the internal resistance of the battery increases and hence this device is efficient when used for low voltage application. The exact values of different components and battery ratings are highly dependent on the power requirements of the load. The battery lifetime enhancer is proposed to be used with non-rechargeable batteries, as rechargeable batteries cannot be safely over-discharged unlike its non-rechargeable counterpart. The device starts its operation when the battery is at its lowest usable voltage i.e. when the battery percentage is at 0% or 1.1 V as in the aforementioned case. The battery lifetime enhancer steps up the battery voltage to such a minimum voltage at which the device to be powered can be operational. To demonstrate the capability of the battery lifetime enhancer, it is used for extending the lifetime of non-rechargeable batteries used to power ZigBee nodes in a wireless sensor network.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
