Abstract:
A method of cladding/coating of metallic and non-metallic powders on metallic substrate by microwave irradiation comprising steps of pre placement of powder particles on metallic substrate, exposure to microwave irradiation in a susceptor environment for cladding/coating followed by cooling and solidification to form a cladding/coating, wherein the coating takes place at a frequency of 2:45 GHz and power of 600 Watt-900 Watt for 3-6 minutes. Said metallic/non-metallic powder is masked with a masking material. Said masking material includes graphite which acts as a separator. Said separator is covered by a susceptor material used to facilitate microwave hybrid heating for initial coupling of microwaves with the metallic and non-metallic powders including ceramic. Said susceptor is such as charcoal. Said metallic substrate comprises cast iron, mild steel, stainless steel, and nickel based alloy including Inconel. Said metallic and/or non-metallic powders are preplaced on the metallic substrate. Said metallic powder for cladding is hard facing powder comprising of super alloy and cermets.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
