Abstract:
The invention relates to brake pad comprising a backing plate and friction layer, compacted together said backing plate being made of a composite having graphite ≤2, copper powder ≤4, nickel powder ≤5, chromium powder (ferrochrome) ≤ 5, phosphorous (ferrophosphorus) ≤ 1, SiC ≤5, Iron powder and said friction layer being made of a composite having iron powder 65-85wt% copper powder 3-12 wt % ferroalloys 2-10 wt% ceramics≤ 8 wt%, lubricants ≤12 wt%, others ≤10 wt%. A process for manufacturing brake pads comprising the steps of providing a powder mixture for the backing plate of the brake plate of the brake pad comprising iron powder and natural crystalline graphite copper powder, nickel, chromium powder, phosphorous powder and silicon carbide, providing a powder mixture for the friction layer of the brake pad comprising iron powder, copper powder, ferroalloys, ceramics, lubricants and other additives: filling a suitably designed die with a predetermined quantity of the powder mixture for backing plate, followed by the powder for the friction layer, to form two consecutive layers, subjecting the powder layers to pressing under high pressure to form a compact, ejecting the compact, heating the compact to obtain a perform followed by, subjecting the perform to forging to provide the brake pad.
