Technology developed: Advanced Detonation Spray Coating Technology (TP19768278560)
Category: Technology Service/Know how
Details of Inventor(s):
Inventor Institution/Organization/Company Department Designation
Dr. D Srinivas Rao International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials Centre for Engineered Coatings Scientist G
Technical Application Area: Engineering
If 'Other', please specify:
Please give more details of new technical application area:
Detonation spray coating (DSC) technology relies on the controlled explosion of oxy-fuel mixture for heating and acceleration of powder particles leading to formation of thicker coatings. With an objective of enhancing the efficiency, productivity and reliability, the detonation frequency of the existing DSC system has been increased (more than 3Hz). Modification of existing mixing chamber, elimination of numerous mechanically moving parts such as cam, gear, piston, roller, bearings, re-engineering of solenoid valves, flashback arresters, mass flow controller, PLC computer controlled system have been successfully accomplished.
Organization(s):
International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) Hyderabad
Affiliated Ministry: DST, Govt. of India
Type of technology development: Indigenous
Does the technology help in replacing any import items currently
procured from outside India?
Yes
Does the technology have export potential? Yes
Category of Technology developed: Immediate Deployment
Stage of Development: Field Test
Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
Technology Status: It’s a commercially proven, successfully transferred & implemented technology Completed necessary tests for evaluating the equipment performance R&D was carried out for deposition of advanced materials for new strategic and industrial applications Technology is ready for transfer TRL Level: 08 (Reassessing feasibility (IP, competition technology, commercial))

    Abstract:

Applications: Steel industry application such as Bridle rolls Textile and paper industry applications such as wire passing pulleys, plungers, steeped cone pulleys, bearing stopper plates, guide rolls Gas compressor applications such as spindle valve, compressor disc or shaft Strategic applications like HP LP turbine blades, compressor discs, LCA nozzles, thrust beating sleeves, propeller shaft seals. Power and energy applications such as guide vanes, hydro turbine blades. TP19768278560-app.pdf
Advantages: Less maintenance: absence of mechanically moving parts Adhesion strength (greater than 10000 psi) and dense microstructure (less than 1%) Negligible thermal degradation and excellent tribological properties Lower substrate temperature & low oxide content Coatings with 50-2000 microns thickness can be produced TP19768278560-adv.pdf

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
