If 'Other', please specify:
Please give more details of new technical application area:
Currently blood glucose monitoring is achieved by venipuncture technique which is invasive and traumatic Saliva is considered as an ultra filtrate of blood containing medical information as blood DNA proteins hormones metabolites hence has been empowered as means for disease diagnosis and prognosis. In the light of this we propose to develop a disposable low cost easy to use and portable diagnostic salivary Glucometer for routine monitoring which can replace the standard method of estimation of plasma glucose levels at the Dental chair side This noninvasive device also reduces risk of needle stick injuries and needle disposal which pose serious health concern to waste collection personnel Disposable Glucometer paper strips made of what man filter paper containing Glucose Oxidase and colour producing reagent are developed These strips when dipped in saliva collected from the patients mouth will undergo a color change due to presence of specific chemical reagent The strips when placed in a developed prototype model of color sensing infrared device will give an instant digital readout of the percentage of glucose

    Abstract:

Applications: Diabetes is fast gaining the status of a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with the disease. In 2000, India 31.7 million topped the world with the highest number of people with diabetes mellitus Approximately 240 dental colleges in India and out of which 5 department need regular monitoring of diabetic patients for the invasive dental procedure Private dental hospitals and clinics across the country and has export potential TP19769098792-app.pdf
Advantages: Complications of diabetes, such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and death, can be prevented with early diagnosis, monitoring and early treatment The existing real time diabetic glucose monitoring device in the market which utilize blood for glucose assessment is invasive, painful and inconvenient due to repeated finger pricks A non invasive painless method of glucose testing could highly improve patient compliance and glucose control while reducing complications and overall management costs To provide user friendly, low cost and continuous glucose monitoring our new salivary glucometer device will be a safe alternative for diagnosis and monitoring TP19769098792-adv.pdf

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
