Abstract:
The present invention discloses a composition based on Mn+ and CO3 2 - as well as Mn+ and SiO3 2 - for enhanced biocidal property of transition metal ions in water, especially biocidal property of silver and copper wherein the composition comprises of Na2CO3 or K2CO3 as a source for CO3 2 -. Composition in its individual capacity (either Mn+ or CO3 2 - or SiO3 2 - alone) doesn't offer significant biocidal ability in diverse conditions of drinking water quality. However, when two components are combined (Mn+ and CO3 2 - represented as Mn+ / CO3 2 - the composition offers new and improved antimicrobial properties which are hitherto unknown. Composition nullifies negative effects of various interfering species present in water on the biocidal property of silver. The composition (Mn+ / CO3 2 - and Mn+ / SiO3 2 - is demonstrated for use as a water purification device for the fast and complete inactivation of microorganisms and as a marker for the replacement of the water purification device upon is effective life.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
