Description : Gas chromatograph (GC) is used to separate and detect the components of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) present in biodiesel. Flame-ionization detection (FID) is used in GC to detects the amount of carbon in a sample of FAME. After the GC column, samples are burned in a hot, hydrogen-air flame, producing ionised carbon. The number of carbon atoms and extent of unsaturation can be measured.
